February updates

Well judging from the comments, people really want an update, so here's what happeneing. Steady progress is being made on the next Civil Protection episode, but there's still a ways to go. I'll get started on a new Freeman's Mind episode soon to try and make up for the delay. I lost a couple days to doing some additional contact work, but that's done now, so I'll back to work on everything else. Progress on the website is going very well and I think it will be done quite soon. My plans are to get it up before the next video is released. Finally, some initial work has been started on a "pilot episode" for something new I want to try. Without spoiling anything, it will be in the Source engine, but will not be Half-Life related. You'll definitely see the next CP and FM episodes out before this however.

ALRIGHT! Sounds great Ross!

Haha yea- I've been checking this page at least twice a day to see if there is anything new- looks like it paid off haha.

I'm excited for this new website- will you post updates like the blog page?

And HOORAY CP! And FM! And this new series...interesting.
Best of luck Ross, your fans got your back.

Fantastic, it's always a highlight of my day to see that you've posted up anything new as its always fantastic!
I'm sure whatever new series you've got planned for us will be excellent =D

DON'T START A NEW SERIES ROSS!

you have your hamds full with the two series out right now.

starting a new series will put EVEN MORE of a delay on the videos people really want (cp)!!!!

Gimme somethin' to SEE, not just to READ :D

Lennon: I agree, although there's a real chance I'm going to have things get easier on the animation end of things, plus I plan to have a notice for getting animation help on the website. Basically what it comes down to is that I feel compelled to do this, even if I realize it will make production for other things slower.

It's his life, he can do whatever the heck he wants lol. If he wants to make a new series, more power to him!

Can't wait to see it Ross! If it's coming from you I know it'll be fun and entertaining! I have my guesses as to what game the new series will be in but I'll keep them to myself. =)

Can't wait to see the new site and the new FM episode! Keep up the good work!!

i think I'd rather see the "pilot episode" first. but that's just me.

Anonymous said...

Sound good Ross, but i agree with "John Lennon"s comment: Don't start a new series Ross. Or what u can do is that u make it, and if the public really like it... well do it.
I cant wait for this terrifying 20 minutes long CP episode, and of coarse FM too (why at the end of the 8th FM episode u didn't took the shotgun?)!
Good luck

Anonymous said...

3 series? Are you sure you can handle that?

Anonymous said...

Can't wait for the new episode and new series.

I remember when then first FM episode came out and some people said "do not do FM, just do CP"

and now people can't get enough of Freeman's Mind.

I think the same will happen to new series. By the 2nd episode people will not be able to imagine the idea of abandoning it.

O if it's Counterstrike I'm gonna be happier than a pig in poop!

Moonlup said...

Ooo, are you doing something with TF2? I'd love you forever if you were!

In the meantime, take as much time as you need to to get the current series done to your satisfaction. I, unlike some, am willing to wait.

Thanks for making these.

Rubber Ducky said...

Wow, a third series? It's okay, anything done by you is funny.

Anonymous said...

Thanks for the update Ross
looking forward for the new episodes and this plot, well i can expect it to be pretty awesome since well.. its from you lol.

Anonymous said...

ross, did u get my comments on machinima?

Anonymous said...

Lovin' the series!

Hmm.... Source but not Half life.... that leaves TF2, CS:S, Portal, Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, Sin Eps, day of defeat....... and Oh yeah... LEFT 4 DEAD.

I'm thinking Tf2 or L4d.

Well Ross, you're the boss, and if you believe this new series will succeed, it probably will. It just sounds to me like you are putting way to much work on your shoulders. I also hope and pray that your animation will get easier as you say it will, because, of not, than there will be less production, which means less fans, which could lead to the end. Hypothetically speaking.

Doubters: It may not be the best idea to juggle 3 series, but I at least want to make this pilot episode and see how it does. There will likely be a long gap between the 1st and 2nd episode if I do continue it. Also chill out, all I have right now is a script and a voice actor picked out for the lead role (it won't be me). FM and CP are still the priority for now.

Also here's a hint: It's not Dark Messiah, although I do want to do something with that or a fantasy game eventually. I'm just not crazy enough to attempt 4 series yet.

Nice!!!
I'm looking forward to your new web site and new CP, FM, and pilot series! Good luck Ross! :)

I'm looking forward to more of your work Ross. I enjoy both Civil Protection an Freeman's Mind, and I'm sure your new series will provide us with hours of entertainment.

I do have a question for you, Ross. If you do ever get through all of Half-Life with Freeman's Mind, and continue into Half-Life 2, would you slip a reference to Civil Protection in it?

Say like Freeman walking up to Dave during Point insertion, only to be pushed away?

Anonymous said...

Freeman's Mind is 100 times better than CPs ;D MORE FAST! ^^

Anonymous said...

Alright. The reason I'm here is because of Freeman's Mind - the first video I've watched by Ross Scott. However, after that I've found your Civil Protection series which are great as well. In my opinion FM is a lot better and I'm refreshing your site like twice a day waiting for new episode :)
I still can't wait for another FM Episode.

Anonymous said...

FM is not funny at all, but thats ok since I've been boycotting humor successfully since 1989. Still it instills great fear in feline creatures. I shall worship episode #9!

blackAngel said...

nice... AWESOME...
but one question. are you going to change to blackmesa source for freemans mind as soon it's available?^^...
However, great job.

Anonymous said...

Glad to see you're still alive Ross. Now, I have a couple questions:

What do you think of the current Half-life games?

What do you think of Valve?

What do you think of Valve's other games?

Unknown said...

Wow, a third episode? At least it will be a pilot, so you aren't necessarily committed to it. Will look forward to seeing it.

Pjotr: I personally don't think FM is incredibly funny either, but that's just because its not my style. I can see how it is funny to a vast majority of people though. Good job Ross!

This is a must watch

A live action short about rebels escaping city 17. I think it's pretty epic.

last "piolt" episode was an april fools joke and that only around the coner so... watch for another prank
XD

UsodStallion said...

By the way Ross- if I may ask - you're doing all of this work on CP, FM and this new episode, plus the website - that is all VERY time consuming-

I don't know if this is rude or not, i'm just curious/concerned:

how are you affording anything? How are you even eating?

I'm a spoiled little boy still living with his mom, if it makes you feel any better.

UsodStallion said...

*Sorry*

Yea it's me again Ross.

The Left 4 Dead DLC was given out so um--

What do you use to record your stuff?

Pretty please?

Anonymous said...

Oh boy I can't wait!

I started playing Half-Life a few days ago and I laughed my ass off when I got to this one part early on in "On a Rail." I'll give you an hint: It reminded me of a joke in Episode 3 at a little after 3:00. You'll see what I mean when you play that part.

Hey ross, i think we all support you in what you choose to do because you are funny in no matter what format. And people tend to do better when they do something they are inspired of.
Good Luck

So far I'm lovin' everything you've produced here. I found your stuff at a recommendation from a friend for Freeman's Mind & I'm enjoying Civil Protection just as much! I haven't even played HL2 yet (just HL1.) Keep up the good work. However long it takes for the next installment it's worth waiting for.

we are fans of your series "Civil Protection"
and me as a beginner in my series "kleiner the squad," I would like to know your series "freeman's mind" and I
make a French version, if you want to, can you tell me how you do the voice of combines and what software you use for your videos and how you had such a fluidity in the game?

Please answer me!

A1-13: Possibly, I'm undecided about that.

Keth: My production rate will increase once I get the new website up, but seriously, you don't have to refresh this twice a day. The more time I spend online the less I get done. Once a week should be plenty for checking here.

blackAngel: I doubt it, though I'm undecided.

AlphaTM: I like their early games better and I think Valve is probably rich as hell right now.

Kerensky The Red: There will likely be a long gap between the 1st and 2nd episode of the new series. It will be a pilot because it's unknown whether I'll be able to continue it past 1 episode due to technical reasons.

Usod Stallion: panhandling as an organ grinder

Andcus: Thanks, part of me wanting to make the pilot episode is because I still haven't shown my full range yet and probably won't for quite some time. Everything I have planned is comedy, but I have some pretty exotic ideas in my mind.

raichi imatake: I'll list the software I use in a FAQ when the new site is up. I use a different voice, minor pitch change, and a bandpass filter for the voice of Mike in CP.

Cool new series can't wait to see the pilot, anxiously awaiting a new FM!

LONG LIVE FREEMANS Mind!!

Rubber Ducky said...

Ross, so is the new series not a comedy?

Hi, Ross
I'm a big dan of CP and FM. If you want i can translate them. I'm Polish btw. ;) Email me (bartjaz@op.pl) and tell me what do you think about it.

O.o Corey o.O said...

Ross, you should do what you wanna do, and keep up the great work! I herd from one of the comments below that the CP episode will be 20 min, give or take a bit. I cannot wait! RAWR. You might want to think about getting help with animations, as juggling 3 series is pretty intense. Also, if you did do anything with Team Fortress 2, i think i would have to officialy create a ross religion >_>

Anonymous said...

I really love your series, Ross. My brother, sister, and I always look forward to your next episode of CP and Freeman's Mind (we kind of watch them back to back with popcorn).

I was wondering however, how far are you going to go in Freeman's Mind? Are you going to the other Half Life games as well? I know that would be plenty of episodes and an overload of work to do (considering the fact that you have other projects).

Anonymous said...

Hey Ross, I have a problem with faceposer, when I make a wav file and make a extraction you know, and save the file.

And then open the channel and click "WAV" then I can't find my wav file, and waht is there a script it asking for? is it like that noesis.txt file from your tutorial, taht I'm gonna make like that for it should work?

Unknown said...

dude, hurry up...this is worse than waiting for the next episode of Battlestar Gallactica. ;^)

Otto said...

Drakeduck: Did you place the files in the steam game directory where FacePoser searches for them? Also, I'd look into more SDK help forums first.

Gir: I don't think Ross has thought into that too much yet. As stated previously, it's a long way ahead to start planning follow-ups but anything could happen.

Anonymous said...

You really should stick with freeman's mind and whats it called.. civil protection..

Which technically it's last proper episode was 'on a rail'...which was too long ago to even bother thinking of.

Either kill off freeman in an upcoming episode or end civil protection if you want to start a new project..

As entertaining as both projects are...anything else would wear out the patience of the most ardent followers..

Best of luck :)

love the CP and FM every time i watch them i notice something new and it makes me laugh my head off, hope the new show will be good and always hoping for more of CP and FM

Anonymous said...

I'm guessing it's a Team Fortress 2 related thing...

Alex Morton said...

Drakeduck, the script it is asking for is a soundscript, the purpose of which is found here: http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Soundscripts
In it you will need to add a new line for the script file you are going to create for your custom wav files in the game_sounds_manifest.txt file. Then you will need to create a soundscript file (see above link). An alternative to this is to edit an existing one. The above link also gives you an example of a soundscript entry or a wav file.

Hope that helps

Top work on both Freemans... and CP; please keep CP going at least. Rare for US gamer humour to translate that well over here in the UK but this makes me laugh my balls off

So, where are the episodes? U said that it's gonna be a fast update of FM. That's why I agree with others, to don't do any more different episodes than CP and FM because the waiting is a bit long...

Ross Scott said...

The latest FM episode has been recorded since Tuesday, as an experiment I let the guy helping me with the audio take care of balancing the volume this time, guess it's not going so well.

Anonymous said...

******************************
in ur next FM episode u should make a reference about a pro counter-strike player by the name of Jonathan "FODDER" Reynolds. like if something completely random happens like an explosion, say "That was about as random as FODDER's AWP..." LOL

Anonymous said...

A New series.... I don't think it's a good idea... this will only slowdown FM and CP....

Vlad said...

FM can't have references like that, because freeman's character wouldn't say that ;)

Anonymous said...

sweet looking forward to new episodes

Friends, Romans, countrymen..

People demand bread and circuses and the next FM episode

Forget the volume balance, can't you see the angry mob gathering.

(volume can be updated later)

P.S.

on new website you can borrow the idea of sponsorship from red vs blue and release the episode for sponsors few hours/day earlier.
I bet a lot of people ,me included, be glad to pay $10 or so (per 1/2 a year or year) sponsorship fee to support your work.

Well, thats nice for the FM episode, it seems that he will be out soon.

Do u think u will finish going throught the whole Half-Life 1 before the end of this year?
