FREEMAN'S MIND: EPISODE 10

Youtube

640x480 74MB WMV

Well here's the latest episode of FM, the next one won't be too far behind. This episode will probably upset the Half-Life purists out there. I use some cheats because in my vision of Half-Life, I see Gordon as capable of doing a pull-up.

And yes, I know I said the previous episode would be the last one before the new website, but I was wrong. I thought things were going well, but all development pretty much stopped after I made that statement, and I can't do the coding on my own. The good news I now have new help on it and progress has resumed on the site (again). I'm pretty serious about getting the site up, which is why I put the new URL in the credits. It will be called "Accursed Farms", and will be the future homepage for all the videos. Nothing is changing production-wise, it will just be easier for me to manage the videos with the new site and will offer more features than the blogspot address. Right now it's unfinished, so you'll only get a front page, but I think it will be up pretty soon. I'm not giving any time estimates since everything seems to go to hell every time I do that. I'll announce as soon as the new site is up.

EDIT:
I'm not sure why the latest episode is darker, I thought it was my imagination when editing. I think it might be a mistake I made in the recording. Unfortunately the footage is already done on the next episode, so it will be darker too, but I'll try and make sure the future ones look alright.

  2. That was awesome, though a little too self-referential for my tastes. Just cos fans might be pissed at Freeman doing pull-ups doesn't mean you should sacrifice the realism of the video to have the character explain how he can do one. Besides that it was fantastic.

  3. When I first saw Freeman lifting up into the vent, I thought "I could of done that!?" Anyways, it's good to see the barnacle thing is working out but the quality seems kinda dark on youtube.

  4. Where's the funneh?

Oh well. Nothing wrong with some chit chat.

Not that I don't also enjoy chit that, but now that I think about it, if you're going to take the liberty of stuff like pull ups, I wouldn't hold it against you for skipping portions of game chapters for the sake of skimming off fluff. Maybe you could fake being able to go through one of those doors that are always conveniently locked to do that.

Also, one possibly argument that comes to mind against Gordon doing pullups could be the weight of his suit and equipment. Anyone know how much the HEV suit weighs by chance?

  8. Great series, I disvovered it yesterday (for me i mean), and have since enjoyed all parts. I have to admit that I never played the game so I just accepted pull-ups. I love how Gordi (as his friends call him (even though he doesnt have any)) explains stuff.

I don't know how many times I've been rickrolled for this, well, it was worth it :-) Thanks a lot for 10 great FM episodes & happy anniversary. "Never gonna give you..." oh dang x.x

Heyy. I have a few notes.

Uh, first of all, its cool he noticed the frag nade at least, but how come he didnt get the shotgun? he had already 3 friggin chances. Freeman's not stupid, i know that. And Ross, are you making this all the way to the end of half life 1? And how about half life 2?

  13. I simply cannot believe that you can still come up with funny material! A bow before you, Mr. Scott! A bow!

  14. Andy: Yeah, it was a little bit heavy-handed to past episodes, that's something I don't plan to do too much of

Anonymous: Smart is not the same as observant. And the answer is maybe, I'll have it in the FAQ on the new site.

Ross, that was an excellent episode. There was humor in it, though some of the viewers didn't quite see it.

And for my part, I rather enjoy watching him bypass all of the shotguns. I know it would make parts of the game easier, but as the character is more of an actor than the player's extension in the video game world in the Series, it wouldn't make sense for him to check every dead end just because there's a colorful box next to a dumpster.

    Bravo, and keep 'em coming.

  16. Nice Ross! I enjoyed that video.

    Alright dude! A website! FTW!

  17. Yeah, YouTube made the video pretty dark. I never played HL1, but Gordon should definitely grab the shotgun eventually.

  18. Oh, and why "Accursed Farms"?

  19. Nice episode dude i love the grenade bit and the bit on the old man breaking the window. nice job keep it up man

  20. Cool! That was a great episode even if you used cheats for lifting up into the vent :) Nice Episode!

Uhm very dark this episode, you lowered brightness? I think it's cool because it's more realistic now.

  21. OMG, "It Christmas around!", finally you found a new weapon (hand grenade). But why you didn't took again the shotgun??? It's a really awesome gun! And the suit battery too...
But one thing: we CAN'T SEE ANYTHING!!! It's much darker than any other episodes, I don't know if it is the Youtube version, but all the previous FM HD videos that I downloader from Macinima were bright. So I don't know if it's you or me. Can you answer me pls?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Yea, this was a very dark episode... But still a very good episode :D

Hey, good job with those pull-ups! I was convinced.

  24. I like how some are complaining about the things he already said in the blog post or has just commented on. :P Good to see all this attention and response to the series, regardless if it's a viewing issue. The YouTube comments are overwhelming, and well deserved for you. Great work on the mighty number 10.

Awesome job, as usual. But there was something about this one that just left me with a hallow feeling. I'm not sure why...
Doesn't stop me from desperately waiting for the next episode though. These videos have got to be one of my favorite things about the internet, only real reason why I check Machinima's youtube page anymore. All the other great series are gone. Darkspire films have completely dropped off of radar, so has Arby N the chief, and everyone else is turning out crap. Your the only one left...
Help us Ross Scott, your our only hope.

Otto, its just like what he said. Smart is not the same as being observent. (is that spelled right?)
Anyway, nice job. Can't wait for the next one.
And I guess I could have put this on the other one, but its good to know that you have a good head on your shoulders, Ross Scott.

  28. Nice job, Ross.
I think skipping some routes by doing pull-ups was actually better than just going through all unnecessary routes.
Anyway, good luck with your new web site. I really want to see it completed. :)

how come he didnt get the shotgun? he had already 3 friggin chances. Freeman's not stupid, i know that.

Yes, he's stupid: "What is that thing, a car battery? That's not really worth pawning. It looks heavy, I'll leave it".

Thanks for another great episode, Ross! I love the understated humour.

"Accursed Farms" is one of the best website names I've seen in a while.

I don't mind Freeman being able to do pull-ups. By doing that one in the freezer you skipped a few minutes of unnecessary crawling around.

While checking out different videos from Machinima on Youtube, I discovered this series and immediately started watching it. The series is hilarious I think. I'm looking forward to that silo with those giant green tentacle things in your series. Finally, I hope that you do carry this on through HL 2, Ep 1, and Ep 2. That would be awesome. Keep up the good work!

  33. Anonymous3:23 PM

It would be awesome to continue the series into Half-Life 2. I also think, just a shot in the dark here by the way, that there should be some outtakes...personally. I'm not saying you must, but it would be funny.

There's a bug in the next act, the first soldier you see will go directly after you without killing the scientist. To have him follow his script you go back a map + forward a map before you see him.

  36. Can Freeman take on the marines with just a crowbar, pistol, and some hand grenades?

  37. keep them coming. i hope at the end you make a DVD, i would buy it

This one was awesome! but when is a new civil protection episode coming out?

  39. I do really LOVE this serie, a few days ago I thought how nice it would be someone would make an series about "if Freeman would talk, how he would sound like?" then a friend showed me your series and it's better than I would ever imagined. Hope you continue with it till the end of the Half Life serie.

Hey Ross, will Mr. Freeman be able to use his grenades in episode 11 :-O?

    ReplyDelete
  41. I would figure Freeman would be pretty infuriated when he had someone right on the opposite side of a locked door go through the exit to the whole place.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Why do some people ask, will you continue to half-life 2 and ep1 and ep2... Half-life is a long game and if you want to come to hl2 it would take 100+ series...

    Continue the good work...
