FREEMAN'S MIND: EPISODE 7

Youtube

640x480 WMV (44MB)

Well here's the next episode of Freeman's Mind. There's no motion blur in this one due to problems mentioned in the last post. Due to the recording method, it's a little twitchier, but hopefully shouldn't be too disorienting.

This is going to be the lastr video release for this year, but I will be working on getting new stuff for January over the winter break. Right now I'm going to be focusing more on the new CP episode and the website. Sorry I didn't make anything Christmas-related this year, but I'm still kind of catching up on everything. Things are starting to fall into place though, it's my hope to produce more videos in 2009 than all my existing ones combined

YEAH!!! Can't wait to watch but I'll wait for download :)

Im concerned about your knowledge of Cthulhu creatures...

Nice work, Ross. Can't wait for next year's episodes.

Serbdude: It should hopefully be tomorrow. This episode was actually finished Friday morning, but things only move so fast with putting up the new videos.

Anonymous: Well I'm afraid there will be a little more of that in "The Tunnel".

Possibly the funniest one yet. The wait and the given length is still a tad annoying, though. The time between episodes would feel more excusable if there was more to see, y'know?

That said, it was still worth the wait. Absolutely hilarious.

You are a very bright guy. All those puns take time to create. Great Job! I wish I were good with this programming stuff... mabe I need to buy your book, hope its easy to understand.

I still don't have any idea what this "motion blur" thing is. I can't tell any difference between this latest video and the previous ones.

Brilliant as ever. I wonder what'll happen when people start shooting at him?

Yay purposeless rooms!

It was a good episode, but I was hoping to see Freeman's reaction when he got grabbed by the barnacle's tongue. Maybe in the next episode :)

eh wasent as funny as the other ones still good tho

Haha! Great episode once again. Glad some busy things are getting out of the way for more progress.

Anonymous-03:
Actually, it's a DVD tutorial, by the way. :)

Nice H.P. Lovecraft reference Ross!

Anonymous said...

Awesome and besides on the Youtube episode I didnt even notice the motion bluring removal. And its just a small change. Keep up the awesome work.

Anonymous said...

Great job, Ross! I think this was the funniest episode yet.

I really wasn't expecting the reference to H.P. Lovecraft.

Wow! New episodes are
uploaded much faster than before!
I really like your works Ross!
I can't wait to see the brand new
CP episode!

Awesome! Irrelevant situational humor rulz lol xD! :):):)

Metroid13: The next one will probably be longer.

Spog: Yeah in retrospect, I should have had him do a Tarzan swing onto that, but I thought of it too late. Part of the reason I didn't do it is because I have something simliar planned for part of a mind-blowing CP episode, but who knows if I'll ever get to that.

Anonymous said...

nice episode. if you need help with re-coding the barnacles or the website i can help. that said. It was just awesome the time length didn't bother me at all.

Anonymous said...

This was simply awsome! Awsome as in the real meaning of awsome not like "Hows the hotdogs? AWsome.." But like how big is the universe? "awsome" that awsome!

Cookie for Ross Scott!

Cant wait for Office Complex.

Ross, I praise you for making these wonderfull series.

Freeman and CP are the funniest series I know!

Continue the good work!

always found it weird how he has a protective suit with no helmet

The wait is killing me. When will the HQ version be uploaded? I would rather not watch it on youtube, you know.
Maybe you could use a different mirror than machinima, temporarily atleast.

Gordon's commentary on the floating crates section was perfect.

If im right about Freeman's questionable knoledge of his surroundings, the office is going to be great!

Wild Goose Chase Productions said...

Ross man, I am really lovin the production rate of Freeman's mind. You have released so many of these in the past few weeks and its great. I honestly love FM way more than CP. I enjoy watching CP but I am always way more excited to see FM. Hope to continue seeing this rate of production, keep it up man.

Well, the lack of motion blur wasnt that bad at all. If there's any episodes where there are none of the alien barnacles, i say use demo. So what if there's a very slight inconsistency in quality. It's very small. Im thinking that having the short tentacles in one particular part wont matter. After you start fighting the soldiers, there's one catwalk with barnacles around it. I say ignore the glitch and just have him say "Soldiers mustve gotten them" cause the motion blur will come in handy during the parts with the soldiers cause Freeman might need some speed to overcome the soldiers... or run right past them.

Kaijudomage said...

Seems to have turned out pretty good, though it hard to tell with YouTubes quailty.

Extra points for doing the extreme jump instead of going through the lame ass vent.

Anonymous said...

Is it true your trying to do the whole series of Half life in freemans mind?

Ross Scott said...

Alex: Definitely. See what you can do with the barnacles, it's a convenience for me to be able to record demos, motion blur or not. Your name will end up in the credits of a ton of future episodes if you can fix it.

JoeScratch: Yeah it can be problematic trying to get stuff up. If they can't get it up today, I'll find another mirror for it.

Kaijudomage: I was looking at it more from the perspective of the vent not even occuring to him. I won't be playing the game like a normal player, I'm going to do as much like a real person as the game allows.

Anonymous said...

Cool!! The part where you jump on crates was very funny XD

Good Work!

Anonymous said...

Muy bien hechos los capitulos

The chapters are very well done

Great episode!

I was wondering, would it be possible to get FM in Super High Quality, perhaps just uploaded to Rapidshare or some other hosting site.

Nice to hear your working on Civil Protection agian. Just dont try to rush yourself (thats how I have been failing my courses in high school, and I'd rather not have other people learn the hard way also).

Hey, I just bought your Tutorial from Noesis, and i didnt know who to ask about help than other then the maker of itself. I saw the intro movie, and copy the files the right directions (episodic)but how do i start your guide? When I open Faceposer, nothing happen, and somehow I cant open Hammer anymore, it wants me to configure some settings, which i dont know how to do.
If you cant answer me here, is there a mail adresse then, where i ask about help?

James Freeman: The original's only recorded at 800x600, but I might put up some mirrors for that when I set up the new site if there's enough interest.

Anonymous: I can only help with how to accomplish something in the Source engine. What you're describing sounds like a software problem with the SDK itself. Your best bet is to contact Noesis directly. They have forums and and email address on their site.

I'm interested as well. The higher, the better.

Great job on the episode! Even without motion blur the realism is there. I love the staggered speech when jumping from crate to crate.

Ross, you're a genius! I've been watching your videos since you released the first Civil Protection episode! And I've got all of them and all Freeman's Mind episodes on my ZEN, I just can't stop to watch them! I'm italian and I have only a PET diploma (passed with merit, though), so I understand just the 90% of the speeches of your videos... I don't even know how many mistakes I'm writing right know, so please, forgive me! :-)
It would be a nice thing to add captions to your videos, don't you agree?
Anyway, you're great! Keep up the good work!

Finally downloaded and watched it. Another great episode. It just keeps getting better.
The detailed yet obscure observations and references to real-world stuff that Freeman makes just makes it so much more "real" - for lack of better word.
Can't wait for future releases. Here's hoping '09 is packed with much more and even better releases.

Good episode, you should have had Gordon accidentally dropped his gun into the bottomless pit when he was on the crates, would've been so funny!

Anonymous said...

Ross, are you going to make a Freeman's Mind for Half-Life 2? I think that it would be great if you did. With this quality of entertainment, I would pay to have this made. I have all the FMs and CPs on my iPod. I will be waiting for the new ones.

Thanks for the reply, Have a Merry Christmas/a Happy whatever you celebrate :)

Your episodes are brilliantly funny, you should be in some sort of comedic movie. It fits your voice :). But besides that, Merry Christma-Hana-Kwanzaa everyone.

Anonymous said...

hey maybe you can replace the barnacles with the ones fromsven coop (the half-life coop play mod). Hope it helps!

i swear to god if i could win the lottery i would pay u a big ransome for ur work..u should like get contract or some thing ur videos r BRILLIANT!!

Gah, fantastic, as always. I've watched from YouTube, but now I'm going to download the HQ versions, they sound much much better =) Keep it up, can't wait for #8!!!

Ross, that part where Gordon talks about the ceiling looking like some kind of wall that comes down and crushes people was spot on. I remember playing the original Half-Life after HL2 came out and thinking "damn, that ceiling reminds me of those Combine walls that smashed up buildings and shit." You and I are of like minds, man.

Anonymous said...

You comedic fucking genius.

Anonymous said...

Thank you and kudos on CP and especially FM - you've identified a niche in the HL universe which has been dying for recognition. Your take on Freeman is eerily funny - so much like a former co-worker of mine.. *shudder*
Bring on more episodes!
(If, by any chance, you should be taking suggestions from your viewers, I'd like to offer this: make Freeman even more human. Real people need to rest, to eat, to pee, even in a situation like that. Satirise the superhumanity of the typical FPS hero! And bring back the anecdotal stories Freeman spurted in the early episodes, like the one about the squirrel. That stuff really draws the viewer in. Just my 2c.)

This series is excellent. And your voice is perfect for Gordon. I hope Valve offers you the chance to voice him should he ever say a word.

Keep up the good work! I look forward to what you have planned for 2009.

ep 8 anytime soon?

Ross Scott said...

Jecalux90: It's going to progress slowly, but there will hopefully be captions and subtitles available for the videos eventually. That's a big goal with the new website.

raichi imatake: I plan to put this up in a FAQ on the new site. I use Cooledit 2000 for audio editing, Adobe Premiere and Virtualdub for video editing, and the Source SDK with some volunteer-made animations made in XSI for Civil Protection.
