Current Plans

Well I’m still not done with this project that’s been keeping me so busy, but I’m getting close. Since some people are wanting updates, here’s what I plan to work on or look into once I’m done with the current job I’m working on:

Unfinished Episodes: There are currently 2 episodes that are partially completed that I want to go back and finish before making too many new ones. I have plenty of good ideas for new episodes, I just don’t want to get too far ahead of myself.

Simultaneous Production: One of the animators in a previous episode has gone and founded his own machinima group, who has expressed an interest in helping to produce CP episodes. Since I’m already working with some good people on other episodes, I’m going to try and manage two projects at the same time, letting his group handle most of the production. This is an experiment, but it may lead to good things.

Dark Messiah of Might and Magic: I’ve been wanting to play this game since it uses the same engine as Half-Life 2. I’m going to see how much material it has for me to work with and if things look good, I may start a fantasy oriented series within it. If I do, it will also be comedy and will still have Mike and Dave, but maybe as guards in a more medieval setting.

Freeman’s Mind: While the writing is more difficult and the format is less interesting than my other ideas, it has the shortest production time of anything else I do, so I plan to continue it interspersed with other projects.

New Website Design / Subtitles: People are still working on this, hopefully it will be done before too long. Thanks to all the volunteers translating and your patience with this.

Other Game Engines: I use the Half-Life 2 engine primarily because it has better animation tools included with it than a lot of other games. If I have time I’d like to research other options. If anyone has experience doing animation in other games and thinks an engine in particular would be good to work with, please email me with more information. If you’re at this site, you’ve probably seen what I can do with the Source engine, so it would have to be roughly comparable to that.

That’s it for now, It might take about a month before I have anything to release again, but once things get going, I’d say to expect more machinima from me than ever before.

Oh yeah, a fantasy oriented machinima with Mike and Dave. That would be so awesome.
Looking forward to more positive updates about whether you plan on doing it.
Thanks for keeping us updated!

Dark Messiah has a lot of material. It also happens to be a really cool game. I'm sure you'll find lots to use in there.

Don't rush yourself, Ross. This may start to get a little too hard with two goups, but if it turns out to be the other way, best of luck to you!

Good news, I guess. Not too much has changed but people are happy so, awesome job and keep up the good work! Aswell as finding real work for yourself.

In the way of Website Design, it's not like you need anything too fancy, just a Forum link up there, more posters and banners and you're done.

I hope we get new eps soon but don't rush it! I love your work and I'd hate to see it becoming crapp cause of rushing it :)
If ya need any translating help, (English->Dutch) send my the files by email adrian [at] kabelfoon.net and I'll see to it :-) (Translating is my job, and for CP I'd do it for free!)

Hello Ross. It's good news. As Adrian, if you want to help with some translation (english, czech), you can send me stuff. Besides, I'm working on new fan webpage about Civil Protection, so when I finish, I'll write you. CP is very popular in Czech Republic. Keep up the work ;-)

Hey you don't know me but I've been viewing your show for literally before it got hot can you make some more episodes I do not want lies
btw you use source sdk?

If you use Dark Messiah, please make it serial as opposed to episodic. It would be awesome to see Mike and Dave undertake some sort of quest.

karanhjala guy: I don't see that happening, Halo doesn't really have any animation tools to speak of.

otto: well I really want to accommodate all the people working on subtitles and I'll need a separate section for that

bursoft: that will be great. I'm going to put a bunch of subtitles and a separate youtube channel up for them as soon as the website gets redesigned, I promise

Kahuna: I don't have any plans for that, those weren't ported to the Source engine, so it makes it trickier for me to film with

christian le: Well I'm not sure it's considered "big" now, but glad you like it. I don't know why you're suspicious of lies, those are my exact plans right there in the post, which means more episodes. And yes, I use the Source SDK to animate all this.

extreme wookie: I've considered that actually. I still won't make it all one connected story, but I would be more likely to have longer storylines broken up.

Sounds good, I look foward to more from the depths of Freeman's Mind, as well as the hilarious antics of Mike & Dave.

Halo is a really easy engine to use when it comes to making machinima. I use it myself. It's balanced out in terms of production and editing. If you've got Halo 3, it is even easier with the Saved Films feature, but filming in Halo 2 is a bit tricky if you don't know what to do. There is no animation involved whatsoever, which is why it is a good machinima engine to use. It makes production time quick, and has a good outcome.
