EPISODE 1: FRIDAY / CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD (33MB)

This will be the webpage devoted to the Civil Protection video series. I've just finished the first episode which you can download from the link above. As for the series, it's inspired by the oppressive policing force within the game Half-Life 2. It's a comedy created using the game engine itself to animate everything. Right now I am the writer, animator, director, producer, cinematographor, editor... pretty much everything you see in the episode is my fault. This episode does contain some language and violence, but it's not much worse than a PG rating.

It was a real pain to learn the SDK and animate all this, so I won't be starting on another episode immediately. Not that you have any frame of reference, but the next one should go much more quickly since a lot of the time was spent on learning everything. Whenever I start on it again, that is. I need a break, I'm practically dreaming about those spooky metal helmets that the CP units wear. Anyway, feel free to contact me or post comments about whatever.

Aww, acepilotf14 doesn't know the real difference between animation and "3D figures" (They're called "models"). Go look at Wikipedia, champ.

In any case, fantastic machinima. Nice animation, writing, and camera angles.

Youtube it!

Hey, glad you are liking the video. As for Youtube, I'm not crazy about the video quality, but some people have already posted it up there anyway. Also, someone put this up on filefront, which is good, because it turns out I'll lose my university webspace once I graduate in a couple months. And don't worry, I plan to make more, I've written most of the script for the second one.

ROFLMAO. This is about as good as Red VS Blue. Keep up the good work man!

Ross, Jo showed me the movie this morning. It was a bit funny. If the production was too easy I now understand your leaving AI.

Hope to see more 'clean' episodes after graduation? Keep of the fabulous work.

Are there any subtitles on this? It would be nice if you could subtitle (as a separate file) your episodes for those of us who can't hear very well.

Ross Scott said...

Actually yes, here's a link to them:

http://www.radford.edu/~rscott31/CP01-Friday.sub

You'll need DirectVobSub and a player that can read these like Media Player Classic, both of which are free.

amazing video man. the animations were superb

Are they going to be part of the HL2 storyline like Concerned, or pretty much separate, like RvB?

Ross Scott said...

Well kind of both since I do plan for some episodes to intersect with the HL2 storyline, but I'm not going to restrain myself to that and move progressively forward in time like Concerned does. I plan to bounce all over with these.

Ross, agreed on youtube, post your episodes to blip.tv - they don't resize your video, they auto-convert it to flash 8 (still offering the original to viewers), and have no hard limit on file size.

Been using it myself for several months now, as have my friends. Give it a go, doesn't hurt to have the episodes spread around at least. :)

dude your first video is freaking sweet... i'm just downloading the 2nd and 3rd one now, and I'm guessing/hoping they'll be better than the 1st.

BUT! Make sure when you run out of ideas you stop the series so it doesn't go downhill, unless of course you're making money from it somehow... keep it up though!

Ross Scott said...

Well you'll notice a difference between 2/3 and 1, some people like it less some people like it more. There will be another big jump though for 4-5 that I think will win over anyone who thought the first ones were a little boring.

As for ideas, there is NO problem there, I easily have a dozen ideas for episodes at any given time. What IS a problem is the damn production time. At least with the next episodes the end result should really pay off.

your videos rock I have seen all of the civil protections so far and they are so funny would you ever think of making DVDs of all of them i would buy it just an idea

Anonymous said...
